Colorado Rockies (58-47) at Philadelphia Phillies (59-44)
7:05pm - Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, PA
In a rematch of the 2007 NLDS, the Phillies will host the Colorado Rockies for a three-game set at Citizens Bank Park. The ageless Jamie Moyer will take the mound for the Phillies against Jason Hammel in the opener of the series. The Phillies will look to rebound from a tough 3-4 roadtrip as they start a quick six game homestand.
Jamie Moyer has struggled against the Rockies in his career, to the tune of a 1-4 record and 5.45 ERA. Current Rockies have a solid .276 average against the lefty in 68 plate appearances. Jamie will need to be more aggressive than usual against the patient hitters of Colorado, especially pitching at home, where he is carrying a 6.83 ERA in 10 starts. Last season, Moyer faced the Rockies once at home and earned a win while surrendering four runs in seven innings.
Jason Hammel is enjoying one of his best seasons as a pro, despite getting roughed up in his last outing. The tall righty gave up five earned runs and didn't make it out of the second inning against the Mets on June 30th, while taking his sixth loss of the season. Hammel will make his first start against the Phillies after appearing in one career game against the Phillies in relief. Current Phillies, in a minimal 29 plate appearances are hitting a robust .444 against him.
On a hot evening in Philadelphia, the ball will no doubt be carrying to all fields. The key to tonight's game will be getting the jump on Hammel and allowing Moyer to pitch with a lead. Coming out of an off day, with the home crowd behind the team, I expect the Phillies to be ready to play tonight and figure out a way to win.
